Kris Campbell

I am more than my body.
I am feelings, thoughts, energy.
“I AM, BEAUTIFUL.” is the title of the piece.
It is meant to be heard by the voices inside you – the ones in your head.
Hear it. Listen to it. It is true.
You are energy. You are a beautiful creation.
When you see it, say it. I AM, BEAUTIFUL.
This is a gift to that voice, that energy that is you that is bigger than the you I see.

All the art I create has color, surface and soul as the main elements. I am working on a series of huge cross stitch tapestries that is meant to be seen outdoors. Being given a mannequin to play with, it was fun to see that it was the voices within and the soul that I wanted to connect with.

Statement about the current series:

This is not your grandmother’s needlework.
This is large scale translucent tapestry made with craft yarn on an open weave that’s as big as the trees. This is Kris Campbell Art.

I create meaningful visual experiences that connect to the soul, time, space and celebrate the human experi- ence. I take a delicate, precise craft and using yarn on screen assemble large works that fill up space, demand- ing to be seen. The consistent cross stitch throughout creates a smooth surface that highlights the color varia- tion, evoking waves of light and molecular energy. In some places the screen is left bare, allowing for a space beyond the surface of the work, imagining the way a soul searches beyond the skin’s surface.
